Reactions To “Stuck With U”

Last Friday, global superstars Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber released their long awaited collaboration “Stuck With U.” The song’s net proceeds will go to the non-profit organization, First Responders Children’s Foundation. The purpose of the organization is to ensure that these children receive necessary resources to thrive and succeed as their parents or guardians fight the coronavirus. Although I was quite nervous for the song, I actually was very happy with it. I love the song, although it is not a song of theirs that stands out to me.

One of my favorite things about when songs are released are watching people’s reaction videos on YouTube and reading reviews online. Some people are either very dramatic and love it, or some people hate it and have quite funny reviews.

For example, YouTuber AJay is known for doing reaction videos that are very funny, honest and dramatic. Most of them receive a good review.. Whereas others do not. I was very intrigued to see her reaction as she loves almost anything Grande makes, yet was disappointed by the latest Bieber album. However, she had a good reaction to the song, complimenting their vocals constantly.

AJay was not the only one who reacted to the song and liked it, more so for Grande than Bieber. This seems to be a common trait- for example, YouTuber Zach Campbell who also loved Grande’s music yet was not a fan of Bieber’s latest album even admitted that he forgot Justin could sing so well.

However, a journalist from Pitchfork saw through their antics, saying that the song was made too late, acknowledging that many states have already lifted their restrictions and are reopening their economies. She basically said that it’s a meh song– not the worst thing she has heard, but not the best thing she has heard.

Another YouTuber said that the song shows off their strong vocals, but is a forgettable song. Although those who have seen the music video liked the homemade videos, he was not a fan as he thought it was cheesy. One thing I was glad he acknowledged was that this is not the only way to donate to the fight against coronavirus. He implied that it seems as though Bieber and manager Scooter Braun are using this song for charity as a chance to get another number one. I liked this because it seems true, based on social media posts promoting the song where it feels more like they care about the charts rather than how much money they will raise.

The overall reaction from people is that both Bieber and Grande sound great together, and this truly shows how talented of vocalists they are. The song is good but is not something that many will remember by the end of quarantine.
